About Dr. Phillips

Trained at the highest level. Rooted in your world

Dr. Curtis Phillips grew up in Trinidad and Tobago , giving him a lived understanding of Caribbean culture and the unique pressures — and stigmas — that often prevent people from seeking mental health care. That background isn’t incidental to his practice. It’s foundational.

After training at Upstate Medical University and completing a fellowship at Mount Sinai Beth Israel in New York, Dr. Phillips led a medication-assisted treatment program in Washington State before bringing his expertise to South Florida — where he saw a clear need for psychiatry that meets underserved communities with both clinical rigor and cultural humility.

Specialties

Care for conditions others often overlook

While most practices handle general psychiatry, C Psychiatric Solutions is built around populations that are frequently undertreated — whether because of cultural barriers, stigma, or a lack of specialized expertise in the clinical community.

Addiction Psychiatry

Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) for opioid and alcohol dependence, combining FDA-approved medications with therapy for sustainable recovery.

Culturally Centered Care

Specialized support for Caribbean and African American communities — understanding cultural stigma, family dynamics, and identity in treatment.

Sports Psychiatry

Mental health care designed for athletes — performance anxiety, burnout, identity transitions, and building the psychological resilience elite performance demands.

Medication Management

Thoughtful, evidence-based prescribing paired with ongoing monitoring — not a quick fix, but a carefully managed part of your overall treatment plan.

Psychotherapy

Individual sessions using CBT, DDP, EMDR and other proven approaches — tailored to your specific diagnosis, history, and goals.

Outpatient Detox

Safe, medically supervised withdrawal support without hospitalization — for patients who need structure without inpatient admission.

Our Approach

The Four C's of every treatment plan

C

Comprehensive

A full psychiatric evaluation is the foundation. We don’t treat symptoms in isolation — we understand the complete picture of who you are before making any recommendations.
C

Collaborative

You don’t exist in a vacuum. We work alongside primary care physicians, nutritionists, pain specialists, and your support network to ensure nothing falls through the cracks.
C

Consultative

Every month, Dr. Phillips provides a written insight report — explaining what’s happened in your treatment, what it means, and where things are headed. No guesswork.
C

Compassionate

Mental illness carries weight — for you and everyone who loves you. Our care is rooted in genuine understanding of that burden, not clinical detachment.

Community Focus

Psychiatry built for

Mental health stigma is a real barrier — and it falls harder on some communities than others. Caribbean and African American families often face cultural expectations around strength, silence, and self-reliance that can make seeking psychiatric care feel impossible.
Dr. Phillips understands this from the inside. His practice is intentionally built to be a place where that stigma is named, understood, and worked through — not ignored.

Culturally informed treatment

Care that incorporates your cultural identity, family dynamics, and community context — not just your diagnosis.

A safe space, genuinely

An environment where you can speak honestly about what you’re going through without fear of judgment or dismissal.

Breaking the silence on stigma

Part of the work is helping you develop a new relationship with the idea of asking for help — and what it says about your strength, not your weakness.
